The Best Is Yet To Come

Frank Sinatra, bringin’ it home with one of the coolest songs I’ll ever listen to. This song will always bring me joy, which is why I chose it as this week’s ComfyCaraoke. In these videos I disregard the usual need to put on makeup, find great lighting and upscale video equipment. Because, while that is important much of the time, sometimes its equally important to give yourself space to enjoy your art. So I’ve challenged myself to spend at least a little time each week singing because I love it, and for no other reason.

Thinking Out Loud

I’m bringing us up a few decades from my usual Big Band Jazz for 2019’s Valentine’s Day. Another week for ignoring my acne, the funky lighting in these videos, and everything else in favor of creating! There is a place for utter professionalism and crystal clear presentation. And there is a place for allowing yourself to just enjoy the things you were created to enjoy. I spend most of my life presenting my polished self. So here, I go back to joy and freedom in my creativity. Regardless of relationship status this week: know, you are loved.

Rainbow Connection

Taking a page out of Kermit’s book today. As a self-described dreamer, this song feels poignant and wonderful. Its a perfect candidate for promoting freedom for myself as I sing. Instead of worrying about being presentable for my “industry,” here I just enjoy. Special thanks to my friend Brittany for requesting this song. I’ll cover whatever song you’d like if you’d like to leave a comment.

Sentimental Journey

Doris Day will forever be one of my favorite voices. This was actually the first song I ever attempted to cover when I was in middle school, just discovering youtube karaoke tracks. What do you think of my rendition? Yet again, this week I am using songs that bring me joy to practice creative freedom. In these videos I am just myself. No big fancy dress-up, not even professional lighting or videography. Just low-budget, creativity for creativities sake.

As Time Goes By

Happy 2019! I’m committed this year to creating more videos where I challenge my own insecurities. I sing songs I love with silly karaoke tracks, no makeup on, and homemade lighting, because creativity is about FREEDOM and JOY - not about doing it perfectly. I hope you enjoy this song.

P.S. Fun fact, Casablanca, where this song debuted, is one of my favorites for many reasons. Particularly, I’ve got a soft spot for it because I share a name with its star actress. Oh to be even near Ingrid Bergman in class and stately, nuanced talent.

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

ComfyCaraokeChristmas Week 3!

Contrary to the song, the streets outside my New York apartment are remarkably bare of snow and in one week I travel to an even less snowy place: Pasadena, CA. Even so, Christmas cheer is in the air and I’m happy to be apart of it. I challenged myself once again this week to be OK with homemade video footage, no makeup…and instead to follow the mantra: JUST GO MAKE ART. I, gently, now pass that advice on to you. Pretense aside, go be creative and happy.

White Christmas

Week 2 of ComfyCaraokeChristmas (yay for alliteration). This is me singing through lots of self-consciousness. It’s one of my favorite songs, which helped, but also gave me a deeper desire to do the song justice. In my house growing up, we watched White Christmas on Thanksgiving Afternoon without fail every year. I fell in love with the idea of being Rosemary Clooney and I could tell you ever behind the scenes fact you never knew you wanted to know about the movie. I hope you enjoy, Merry Christmas!

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

Welcome to ComfyCaraoke, December 4, 2018!

ComfyCaraoke is my attempt to embrace music and creativity without catering to all of the pressures I feel to look pretty, put on makeup, have impeccable lighting and sound, etc. In a world where everyone wants to be seen as an expert, I challenge myself to be okay doing things for the love of doing them. "What I Did For Love," A Chorus Line, anybody?

My Funny Valentine

Welcome to ComfyCaraoke, November 20, 2018!

I started ComfyCaraoke as a way to face my self-critic and do creative things without needing to look good doing them. So, these aren't beautifully, professionally recorded. I don't have makeup on. I'm singing to other youtube karaoke tracks. But its bringing me joy. And that's the point of creativity - to bring you and others joy! So I hope it brought you some joy today.
